Sadly, this is a county that doesn’t provide a large budget for the sheriffs department. As a member of my neighborhoods HOA for years, I had many opportunities to work with them. I’ll use your word “exhausted“ to describe many of my interactions with them.

Shirley, the end of the story is that I now know thieves target empty houses to steal water or piping. I’m also on the hook for the bill. The most I can say is that it makes a very incredible story.

Now we have a reason to turn the water off inside the house when going away. A minor annoyance to turn it back on when you return.

Perhaps a phone call to the police for the purloined water is in order. This is totally theft! And yes, what is happening to people?! Do we not only have to shut off our mail when we are not occupying a residence, but also alert the water company? What about someone stealing your electric too? I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this. But you can bet I am going to mention it on my town FB feed. It’s bad enough the state I live in has the highest electrical rates around, and is owned by a corporation in Spain. We live in Maine.

So much greed going on, creating desperate people. Sad.

Forgot to add that the water mgt. folks have now locked my water gauge and only they can open it. Oy! Talk about security.

Where we live, on 13 acres, I am sooo grateful we have our own well. But I feel for those who have to pay for water.

Our well water tastes a bit earthy, so I distill what I drink.

I did call our county’s Sheriff Dept. to offer a heads up. The deputy with whom I spoke evinced little interest. I tried.

Deputy? I’d be going higher up were it me. But that’s me. When my ire is up. I exhaust all avenues.
