About ten years ago, I started noticing that it wasn’t only people who were then my age at 60 were forgetting things, I was noticing it more and more amongst younger people less than half my age back then were having the same issues. They would be grasping at words in our conversations to the point I felt like just doing the Vulcan Mind Meld with them to garner what they were trying to spit out. I truly feel that the technology and smart phones have taken over half our brain, sometime more. I know the feeling about panicking thinking that dementia is sure to come on at any given moment and leaving one stranded on a now unfamiliar roadway as they grasp for their phone only to find they can’t find it while they’ve been talking on it all along! True story. My daughter a few states over finally said, “Mom, mom! What are you talking to me on??” Oh. Right. Duh.
A couple weeks ago I downloaded a “Mindfulness Bell” app on my phone that dings once about 16 times a day intermittently. When I hear it, I stop, take a deep breath and remind myself to be present. It’s really helping!
