So this happened one morning at 8 AM last winter. I’d just washed my hair and the power went off. Again. (Sadly, squirrels in my neighborhood have an affinity for antagonizing high-wire electrical transformers. It’s a losing battle, both for power in the neighborhood and for the squirrels. Sigh.) 38 of our 136 neighborhood homes went dark and the temp was a bit above freezing. Argh! Pulled a knit cap over my wet hair, bundled up, and tried to figure out where to hunker down, warmly, until the power’s projected return, around 11:15 AM. Suddenly, my phone rang. My neighbors were also without power and decided desperate measures were called for - a run to McDonald’s 2 miles away. Did I want coffee? Yes!!
Very shortly thereafter, my neighbor called from her car to say she was three minutes away with my coffee. Whoopee!! We hung up AND the electricity immediately returned, 2 1/2 hours earlier than expected. I think it was the power of her good deed. Doesn’t really matter, just a wonderful reminder that the universe unexpectedly lights up when we least expect it. Anytime. Any place. Pay attention….you might be surprised.
Then I just sat there happily sipping my coffee….
