I’ve found a new passion, an unexpected gift from a health challenge. Crafting brief essays about being human with a large side of heart and humor. I bet you have heart, are human, and (on some occasions) have a sense of humor. Right? Well, then, these essays are for you!
The problem, after much supportive feedback, is how to share these pieces so more folks can read, empathize, laugh, and be touched by them. And, damn, this is turning out to be hard! In today’s world, you almost have to build, and massage (oy!), a social media empire to enable more viewers to see your work. (An image of Jan running for the hills…)
Geez, I don’t want to spend time on Twitter promoting myself, cuddle up to other writers on well-known posting sites so they’ll “like” and promote my work, or provide written “happy talk“ between essays to keep readers’ attention. Does this sound like fun to you? I don’t drink anymore, but cogitating this makes me wonder if the years’-old bottles of gin and rum I have are expired.
I just want to write. I love going through daily life and suddenly feeling captured by an ordinary incident that insists on being written about. Here! Pay attention! Now! A conundrum that I can unwind via humor and a decent slice of heart (and even better if I find myself laughing at the piece after finishing.) So, here I am on….SubStack. Please join me on “this being human thing” and let’s journey together.
