Cliche City
We’re paying a long overdue visit to Cliche City, today.
Oh, you haven’t heard of Cliche City? Cliche City is located in the well-known state of Cheap Guidance. That little-known berg, Cliché City, is my chosen locale for the many, many quotations I’ve stashed over the years (and, yes, subsumed in that celebrated state of Cheap Guidance.)
Most of my pilfered quotations settle right in as active citizens, attracting other folks who are determined, or desperate, seekers of ANSWERS. Like me. Please join us for a quickie tour of our current citizenry.
Forthwith, you’ll meet journalist, Abe Streep, who knows how to cut to the chase:
“Nobody’s ever been convinced by being made to feel stupid.”
Guy’s got a point, you know.
Moving on. Time to acquaint yourself with another very active citizen, Amos Kennedy:
“Each person must live their life as a model for others.”
Well, thanks, Amos. Talk about opening a can of worms for us. What traits are we supposed to be modeling for others?
You mean, we have to figure this one out on our own? No fair! I came here for cheap guidance!
Oh, well….
We just hit the big time. Standing right over there, on twin soapboxes, are the great Russian author, Leo Tolstoy (at least his spirit, anyway) and the very alive political journalist, Sally Kohn.
Ready? Leo goes first, but Sally bookends him very quickly:
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves.” (Thanks, Leo.)
And…
“We have to do both. Before it’s too late.”~ Sally Kohn (You go, Sally!)
Is that not a double whammy? Changing ourselves, in addition to changing the world? A big ask. Actually, a huge ask. Huge. But if anyone can do it, we can.
Yes, yes, I hear your low murmurs and acknowledge we’ve hit overload on our Cliche City tour. You’ve been heard. Our abbreviated tour of Cliché City’s good citizens is coming to an end.
Oh, wait! One last denizen is crying out to be heard. OMG, talk about a throwback! Marcus Aurelius steps into the present day:
“The best revenge is to be unlike him/her who performed the injury.”
See you in the trenches of change…

In a nutshell! Thanks, Jan!
